Mannington Commercial, a leader in flooring for commercial interiors, announced today the launch of Color|Spec, the flooring industry’s first color sampling and specification app. Any designer with an iPad or tablet can begin with a color spectrum or with the device’s integrated camera, and find coordinating products from the company’s broadloom carpet, modular carpet, LVT, VCT, rubber, heterogeneous sheet, homogeneous sheet, wood and porcelain with a single click.
“For designers, end users, and their clients, finding the right color is such a central component of the interior design process,” said Natalie Jones, Mannington VP of Commercial Brand Development and Creative Product. “Using a proprietary algorithm to assign RGB values to the colorway of every product in Mannington’s portfolio, Color|Spec pulls products from our nine integrated flooring categories, and then ranks them by how close they are in value to the selected color.”
Building upon the popularity of Apt – an app that Mannington launched last year to make tablets more useful than ever for design, specifying and client presentations – the team created Color|Spec to extend the tablet’s usefulness. Patterned after the spectrum tools in Adobe Creative Suite toolkits,
Color|Spec turns the user’s tablet into a multi-dimensional design tool, collapsing the distance between inspiration and specification.
A sleek, user-friendly interface starts with a full color spectrum. Designers select a point on the spectrum with a magnifying glass, or “color loupe,” then explore coordinating products, assemble entire inspiration boards, order samples, use the custom floor layout generator, and even create
multiple presentation boards.
When working on a project where some finishes have already been chosen, Color|Spec lets specifiers take a photograph or upload a photo from an existing gallery, then tap a color on the photo to find coordinating flooring products from across Mannington’s portfolio.
“Starting with the camera, rather than with the pure inspiration of a color spectrum, is highly useful for renovation projects, or any time that specifiers need to match existing finishes,” said Jones. “Best of all, Color|Spec is incredibly easy to use. Its user interface is touch-driven, using hand movements
familiar to any tablet user, to select any pixel on the screen. Making it both user-friendly, and useful, from the moment it’s downloaded.”
