At Mannington, we are grateful for the sacrifices of our nation’s veterans and their families. So we’ve partnered with Operation FINALLY HOME (which provides custom-built, mortgage-free homes to veterans) and The Lewes Building Co. to provide flooring for the new Milton, Delaware, home of U.S. Army Sergeant (RET) Shaun O’Brien. As a combat medic deployed to Afghanistan, Sergeant O’Brien was part of a landmine sweep team hit by a high explosive anti-tank rocket that landed just 25 feet away.  After helping tend to his team’s wounds, O’Brien realized that he, too, was hurt. He suffered a traumatic brain injury, herniated discs and compressed nerves in his spine (which led to three back surgeries).

For his service, Sergeant O’Brien received a Purple Heart. “To be honest, it’s a complete honor to be able to serve this country,” says O’Brien. “On both sides of our family, we have a history of serving. This was something I always wanted to do.”

Following his recovery, O’Brien enrolled in a vocational rehabilitation program. As a former graphic artist, he plans to return to college to pursue a degree in industrial design.  He and his family were recently joined by well-wishers for the dedication of their new home.

Not even a downpour could dampen the enthusiasm of the O’Brien family as they entered their home for the first time.

With its open floorplan, this home is easy for O’Brien and his service dog to navigate.  And for he and wife, Jesyka, to watch over their two small children when playing, relaxing or enjoying mealtime as a family.

For the O’Brien home, Mannington’s ADURA® Dockside (color-Seashell) and ADURA®Max Legacy (color-White with Gray) proved perfect picks. Transitional looks that are durable and easy-care, these floors are child and pet-friendly, too.

In the kitchen, ADURA® Dockside delivers the look of reclaimed wood -plus lots of visual interest and contrast- when paired with contemporary and traditional design elements, like the sleek waterfall island and classic white cabinetry.

In the master bedroom, ADURA® Dockside creates a relaxed, beachy vibe alongside a creamy white bed with a shutter-style headboard and colorful lamps in a Caribbean blue.

Also in the master bedroom is a trendy sliding barn door that coordinates well with the rustic, reclaimed looking floor. The barn door opens to reveal a spacious master bathroom.

A modern take on classic Carrara marble, ADURA®Max Legacy LVT is waterproof and less slippery than real stone. That makes Legacy a stylish, smart pick for the master bath which has not only a conventional bathtub and shower but a handicap accessible bathtub, too. For added sure-footedness, flooring was also selected that has an even height transition from room to room.

As the family enters the bedroom of their oldest son, his face says it all. “I have my own room!”

Crafted with Mannington’s patented Scratch Resist® technology that creates a surface so tough, it wears away the ridges on a quarter, ADURA® Dockside is playtime perfect.

ADURA® Dockside’s Scratch Resist® finish will also help the O’Brien’s keep their home office looking its best, even when using a desk chair on rollers.

For rooms where real wood floors aren’t practical (like the O’Brien’s laundry room), ADURA® Dockside delivers the look -without the worry- because it’s water-proof.

“We’ve had nine houses in nine years,” says Jesyka. “And we get to say this is home now, forever.”

We, at Mannington, agree. There is no better feeling than to be finally home.
