Rock the Block Team Spotlight: Page & Mitch

Now that season five of HGTV’s Rock the Block has come to an end, and all of the design teams have amazed us with all the ways they designed homes, we wanted to highlight each team’s hard work this season.

All of this season’s teams had participated in previous seasons of Rock the Block, but didn’t win the main competition. Page Turner and Mitch Glew of HGTV’s Fix My Flip competed on season four of Rock the Block, set in Colorado, with Page also appearing on seasons two and three of Rock the Block as a judge.

With a lot of lessons learned from their past experience on Rock the Block, Page and Mitch went into season five with the mission of turning their blank slate home into a luxurious waterfront property with a style of decor they called Coastal Chic. Each week, we watched as they focused on a different area of their home, and in many rooms of their house, Page and Mitch used Mokuzai flooring in Autumn Leaf, part of Mannington’s ADURA®APEX luxury vinyl collection, which brought in a lot of beautiful warmth.

Kitchen & Dining Room

In the season five premiere, the teams focused on their kitchens, dining rooms, and related spaces like pantries. With the home’s waterfront location, maximizing the views and supporting the concept of indoor/outdoor living were key priorities. The folding windows they installed in the kitchen created a seamless connection between the kitchen and an outdoor balcony were a big hit with the judges. They also created lots of storage, brought in some beautiful wood tones, and added a stunning 10-foot kitchen island as a centerpiece of the kitchen. Just off the kitchen, they created a pantry with lots of food prep space and a dining room with a wine wall.

Living Room & Guest Suites

During episode two, the teams worked on building out their living rooms and guest suites. Page and Mitch took the indoor/outdoor living concept even further by installing a large triple sliding door in their living room leading out to the balcony, letting in even more light and taking full advantage of the view of the water. Their living room also featured a gas fireplace that created a very cozy atmosphere.

To use up the remaining space on the first floor of their home, Page and Mitch added a guest bedroom, laundry area, and two bathrooms. Their guest room features an exciting, high-tech way to make the space transition from a home office to a guest bedroom.

Master Suite

In episode three, the teams headed upstairs to work on designing their master suites. Page and Mitch stuck to simple but elegant decor to create the luxury resort atmosphere they were aiming for, including wall niches, oversized pendant lighting, Moroccan plaster in the bathroom, and a champagne bar in the walk-in closet.

Page and Mitch had another excellent idea to help residents make the most of the home’s waterfront view by installing a bed platform so that the view won’t be blocked by the balcony rails. The platform was created using the same Mokuzai flooring from Mannington’s ADURA®APEX collection that they used elsewhere in the house.

Multi-Functional Room Challenge

After spending episodes four and five working on home exteriors and outdoor spaces, episode six brought the teams back inside with a challenge to create a multi-purpose guest room in 48 hours. Having already made a guest room/home office in episode two, they took on the challenge of creating a guest room that doubles as a social media creation studio with adjoining bathroom. Their studio featured dramatic dark walls, a cozy daybed, and storage for clothing or other tools that support content creation.

Finishing Touches

In the season five finale, the teams worked on putting the final touches on their homes. For Page and Mitch, that meant adding a reading nook and a laundry room. In season four of Rock the Block, Page and Mitch had been successful in creating a built-in library for their home’s living room and were eager to do something similar again by creating a custom bookshelf with seating area.
